Thoughts

The Mets ended they're 5 game losing streak today with a 10-3 win over Florida. Daniel Murphy led the Mets today with 3 RBIs. Box score / Information - http://www.mets.com

Mets:
- The Mets should look to keep Anderson Hernandez and Cory Sullivan around next year for the bench. The regular lineup will be in place next season and these two will definately bring something to the team off the bench.

Sullivan has shown to be a very capable outfielder with a good arm. He has also shown to be more than competant at the plate, thus, he would be an asset to the team going forward. He has a bit more power than Jeremy Reed, who has been the fourth outfielder all year, which helps his cause.

Hernandez brings gret defense and versitility to the bench. He can play both middle infield positions very well, giving Jose Reyes and Luis Castillo days off when needed. At the plate, Hernandez is much improved this season. He has shown a bit more patience and has been able to put the ball in play more often, with improving results. He still needs to improve his eye and pitch selection a bit more though. If he can, he will be a very useful part time player on the Mets.

-Tim Redding may deserve another look. He has pitched well in his last two starts. It is too late now but maybe he is finally beginning to put it together. In these two starts he has allowed 3 runs in 11.2 innings (all 3 were given up today in 6.2 innings against Florida). These two performances would more than give the regular lineup a chance to win. If he continues to pitch as well in his last 6 or 7 starts this season, it may be in the Mets' interest to give him another chance and not write him off. Hey, hes looke a lot better than Oliver Perez has. His role next year would not be determined until spring training, depending on any free agent signings or emerging rookies. Redding could make a fine 5th starter or give you innings out of the bullpen as well as make a spot start.

-Brian Stokes has been very good since the all star break and is pitching with lots of confidence right now. Look for him to be the 7th inning guy next year if this keeps up. He is also able to eat up innings out of the bullpen which is also useful.

The Yankees fell to Texas this afternoon, 7-2. Ian Kinsler had a 4 RBI day for the Rangers.

Yankees:
The Yankees still own a 6 game lead over Boston in the AL East. There is still plenty of baseball to be played and it would not be wise for the Yankees to turn on cruise control.

What should be the Yankees main concern is the middle relief before Mariano Rivera. There have been times where they have not been good. Hopefully, come playoff time, the starters can pitch deep into games and the relievers are out in positions to succeed.

Andy Pettite is not getting any younger and the Yankees need to look for a starter this off season. Getting another hard throwin arm for the bullpen would also help.
